If passed, restraining orders would now require the abuser to cease all contact with jointly owned animals." This might sound odd, but not only are people inclined towards violence towards human also inclined to be violent towards pets, but also pets sometimes become a way of hurting or controlling a partner in intimate violence situations. I think the law is a great indication that lawmakers are beginning to understand the complexity of domestic violence situations.
