Jezebel: Women Too Stupid To Stay Thin Are Not Smart Enough For Supreme Court: "Oh, how I wish I was kidding. But as law professor Paul Campos points out at The Daily Beast, this is an actual line of thought among some people who call themselves liberals."

Justices Limit Use of Identity Theft Law in Immigration Cases: "The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the law may not be used against many illegal workers who used false Social Security numbers to get jobs."
Mmm...goat cheese 101.

Went here for lunch today, had a GREAT sandwich. It's not the best location ever but it's worth the trek for the great food and to support the friendly owner.

NYTimes: on high-functioning alcoholics.

Left: loving this photo from Billy Elliot.

Corporette hasn't done much for me recently, but I have pondered this workplace dress question, "How doable is the untucked shirt with jacket?"

Jezebel: "The Family Court in Australia has granted a female-to-male transgender 17-year-old permission to have his breasts removed. Unsurprisingly, the case is not without controversy."

Creme brulee cart? I'm listening!
Loving the necklaces by Imogene and Annie.

An Oregon necklace!  I'll take it in gold (no diamond, thanks), and one in silver for my bff, of course.

Jaunted comes to Brookline - yay Zaftigs!  I actually think Zaftigs is sort of overrated, but I love the shoutout...

Mother's Day behind bars.

“Our notions about happiness entrap us. We forget that they are just ideas. Our idea of happiness can prevent us from actually being happy. We fail to see the opportunity for joy that is right in front of us when we are caught in a belief that happiness should take a particular form.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

The Boston Globe lives to see another day.

Cake Wrecks, the Star Trek version.

A bizarre new tv show from the We (?) network.

Mentally Ill and in Immigration Limbo: "A Chinese woman’s journey from a restaurant in Brooklyn to a detention cell in Florida illustrates the vulnerability of the mentally ill in the immigration system, advocates say."

The Court's other diversity problem: "More rare than a lesbian or Latino on the bench: a justice who didn’t go to Harvard or Yale. While others speculate on the race and gender of Justice Souter’s replacement, Paul Campos explains that the Supreme Court’s real diversity problem is career path and class. It wasn’t always this way."

Real world dating advice for teenaged boys.

"I Do Not Hook Up" (Kelly Clarkson), This video is so random, but you can't deny the song is a nearly flawless pop song. Do not resist the pop! I have to say, I'm loving this album, including "Don't Let Me Stop You" and "If I Can't Have You." Perfect summer songs.

The Donut Chef!

"One of the most amazing green roofs in the world is at the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. From a distance, you can barely even tell that the 5-story structure is a building, it blends in so well with its environment. A plethora of glass walls allow plenty of natural light to illuminate the interior, and the grassy roof is used as a meeting space for students. The green roof also insulates the building, cools the surrounding air and harvests rainwater for landscape irrigation."

Star Wars as told by a 3 year old.

“The art of living does not consist in preserving and clinging to a particular mood of happiness, but in allowing happiness to change its form without being disappointed by the change, for happiness, like a child, must be allowed to grow up.” - Charles Morgan

Labor Behind Closed Doors: "Domestic workers are isolated both physically and legally from labor protections. Household workers are excluded from the National Labor Relations Act, which protects the right to organize, and from various wage, civil rights and occupational safety regulations. They also typically work long hours in isolation, which constrains opportunities to expose harmful conditions or abuse."

Five "world's largest" roadside attractions.  Can you tell I'm craving a roadtrip?

The NY Times' obnoxious habit of putting anything female-related in the "Styles" section continues.

Another front-runner for Souter's spot on SCOTUS is Stanford Law Professor Kathleen Sullivan, who would be the first openly gay Justice.

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can’t readily accept the God formula, the big answers don’t remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.” - Charles Bukowski

A new BitchTapes mix, this time "Spring = Change" (which is true).

Carol Ann Duffy became the first woman to ever hold the title of Britain's poet laureate.

Is the White House backtracking on it's commitment to LGBT rights?

CNN rates the world's best music festivals.  I'm not a huge festival goer but I went to Bonnaroo a few years ago and it was pretty amazing (also overwhleming, but...definitely amazing music-wise).

More from Geoff Dyer.  I'm looking forward to picking up his new book.

Mind-blowing Bachata.

Souter's saying farewell to the court (supposedly) and now the guessing about his replacement can begin (or continue...). Included in the potential replacements is Judge Kim McLane Wardlaw (Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (CA)), who I had the pleasure of working for a few years ago - I'd be incredibly excited to see her take the bench.)  Judge Sonia Sotomayor seems to be the front runner currently.

New Sarah Haskins, Target = Medicine.
Pep Talk: Maybe the stars weren’t aligned the last few times you went out on a limb (God, I love mixed metaphors), but that doesn’t mean you should stop. Don’t let anyone talk you out of dreaming! Who knows what your destiny is? Who knows what fate has in store for you? You’re allowed to believe in whatever you choose. Keep hope alive.

Today remind yourself: Don’t stop believing.

From Transgriot, "SRS Is Not A Requirement To Be A 'Successful' Transsexual."

From Feministing: "Nicholas Kristof writes an op-ed for the NYTimes about the appalling amount of time it takes for rape kits to actually be tested and how sometimes they are not even tested. It is something that as feminists we have talked about extensively and sexual assault survivor advocates have organized around. The lackadaisical nature of rape kit testing and the general nonchalance or downright ignorance with which police do not investigate rape cases, it becomes damn near impossible to prove someone has been raped."  Jezebel gets in on the discussion, as well.

Yep, the casual use of the word "rape" is completely inappropriate and upsetting: "We at Broadsheet have written extensively about the many ways in which the word 'gay' has been misused to describe everything from a crappy-looking shirt to kids who don't seem to fit in with cultural norms, with sometimes tragic results. But this week, Alternet's Mikki Halpin asks if the same thing is happening to the word 'rape.'"
